Lock operation
Our house is fitted with a coded lock for the front door. You should have received a code for this lock.

To open the door, push the top button and then enter your code. You can then turn the knob counter clock-wise, and the lock will open.

To lock the door, click on the top button and rotate the knob clock-wise. Please make sure that the door is locked.

Wireless Internet
The office has a computer with a printer and broadband internet connection.

If you bring your own laptop and want to connect it to the internet, look for the wireless network called BERGHOUSE. The network is secured, so you need to connect with the password 6512921028.

The wireless router is located in the office upstairs. If you are experiencing problems with the internet service, it might help to unplug the power cord to the router and re-plug it. Wait approx. 1 minute before trying to connect again after restarting the router.
There is parking in front of the house and you can also park in the circle. Make sure that you are parked at least 20 feet from the intersection, as we have had one guest who got a parking ticket being too close. You can also park in the garage if your car is not too big. (We had a Volvo station wagon in there, but I don't think it will fit a car that is much bigger than that). If you park or stop in the alley, make sure that the neighbors can get past your car.

On the page you can sign up for notifications either by text messages or e-mails. If you are staying at the Berg House in the winter, this might be a good thing to do.

Being a Norwegian (Svein), here is a good Ole and Lena joke:
Ole and Lena was at the kitchen table for the usual morning cup of coffee and listening to a weather report coming from the radio.
"There will be 3 to 5 inches of snow today and a snow emergency has been declared. All vehicles should be parked on the odd-numbered side of the streets today to facilitate snowplows," the radio voice declared.

"Oh, gosh, OK," said Ole, getting up, bundling up and heading outside to dutifully put his car on the odd-numbered side of the street.

Two days later, Ole and Lena were at morning coffee when the radio voice said:

"There will be 2 to 4 inches of snow today and a snow emergency has been declared. You must park your vehicles on the even-numbered side of the streets."

Ole got up from his coffee as before. He bundled up, shuffled off, and put his car on the even-numbered side of the street.

A few days later, the couple was at the table when the radio voice declared:

"There will be 6 to 8 inches of snow today and a snow emergency has been declared. You must park your cars on the ..." Just then, the power went out.

"Park it where?" Ole asked in the dark, "What should I do?"

"Aw, to heck with them, Ole," Lena said, "Don't worry about it today. Just leave the car in the garage."

Mississippi Market
Mississippi Market is a Natural Foods Co-op, consumer owned and controlled since 1979. Just two minutes' walk from the house you will find St. Paul's premier source for health products and natural foods. There is an excellent co-op two blocks from the house with local and organic produce. To get there, go North on St. Albans (take a right from the front door), and take a first right on Hague. See for yourself how fresh, fast and friendly a trip to the corner market can be.

As a guest at the Berg House, you can use our membership at the local Co-op to get in on the membership prices on good organic and local produce. At check-out, tell them our member number 71886 and say that you stay at the Berg House.

This home was absolutely perfect for our family of four. The house itself is a charming Victorian, and while the owners have maintained the period style and details, it has been refurbished in a way that makes it very functional and comfortable. The entire house was very clean and well maintained. The attention to detail was wonderful-- the kitchen was actually the best-stocked kitchen I've seen in a VRBO, the linens were very comfortable and high quality, and extras were easy to find (ie trash bags, tissues, etc). It was so nice to walk in to a place that had plenty of dishes, spices, condiments, appliances-- all in great working condition. Our two small children were thrilled to find the play kitchen and a few toys as well as several children's books-- one less thing to pack! The master bath was in a convenient location; it's not attached to a bedroom so everyone on the top floor has easy access to it. There was plenty of closet space as well. I had a question for the owner during our stay and he responded immediately, as he also did for our communications prior to our stay. I highly recommend this place!

Our recent stay was for the wedding of one of our daughters. It was very convenient for St. Paul and also for the wedding in downtown Minneapolis. There were six of us and we were very comfortable there. We had fun walking to the market and other shops and restaurants as other people have also commented, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and Victorian houses that were just a short walk away. The kitchen was large and very well equipped, and would be great for a holiday stay including lots of cooking, and also a nice large dining room, and pleasant patio.

Rules for living
We have some simple rules to make our guests' living comfy
The Berg House is a smoke- and pet-free house. This is a strict policy so that we can host guests that are sensitive or allergic to smoke or pets.
Check-in is at 4 pm and check-out at 11 am. We try to be flexible with these times as long as our schedule permits it, so please inquire if you have special needs.
We have a strict cancellation policy, and after a booking is made we only refund days that we are able to rent to another party. We recommend buying a travel insurance policy that will cover a trip cancellation.
